Landscaping and Runaway Dogs

Writing is my zen - did you know that? I started this blog as a way to keep our family up-to-date on the life and times of the Glasers. It spawned into so much more! Sometimes we give advice. Sometimes we challenge ourselves. Sometimes we just bitch and complain.

OK, a lot of times we just bitch and complain. And by 'we', I mean 'me'.

At 33 weeks pregnant, I'm recovering from what was one hell of a crappy week. This week is looking SO much better than last week. For starters, my contractions have subsided a bit. Sure, water retention has taken its place but it least I don't feel like baby Glaser is trying to dig his way out.

Also, the dogs haven't made an attempt at running away this week ... not yet, at least.

You see, last week I was having contractions and I was sick. I found myself in the hospital for observation and testing. Right before we left the house, Sparky and Cecil bolted out my front door.

"I did no such thing - I'm perfect!"

Thankfully, my Mom was over and she managed to get them both back inside (with a little help from Craig). Talk about nearly having a heart attack.

Fast forward to Saturday. Craig was watching TV and I was in the powder room getting ready for lunch with the fam. Craig came bolting in asking where Cecil was. Last I checked, he was outside with Sparky. Well, as Craig was watching TV, Sparky came sauntering up the driveway and Cecil was nowhere to be found.

Our neighbors had him, called me, and Craig went to get him.

How'd the get out? They dug their way out from under the fence. WTF!!! We have a fence for a reason and these two figured out how to dig UNDER it.

I like to explore. So what?!?!

Sunday we made our way to Lowes (which is really up the street from us). We needed to take a look at some options that would keep our pups from digging at the fence. Without realizing it, we're starting a new project. We're going to buy a ton of little concrete slabs/bricks to put in front of the fence. It'll create a nice little walk way. We're no0bs when it comes to stuff like this so we're making it up as we go along.

Perhaps that'll keep the dogs from running away. Got any other ideas?

Dog Lovers and Flea Repellant

So, I'm kinda pissed right now. Craig and I have a natural love for +Costco Wholesale. Well, we love the stuff they sell, we don't always love going there. I recently picked up some flea and tick stuff that they sell through their Kirkland brand.

I tried it on Sparky.

That stuff is getting returned ASAP!!! Why? It burned his skin. I got the right kind for his weight and used the right dosage but it burned his skin.

Poor pup.

So, I'm pissed. I'm really pissed that Costco would sell a product that could harm my dog. I'll be REALLY angry if they don't take it back.

And now I'm on the lookout for an all-natural flea and tick repellant. When we lived in Israel, our local dog groomer made his own and it seemed to really help both Sparky and Cecil. It was one of the few products that didn't cause Cecil to eat his paws (due to allergies).

Now I'm crowd sourcing - have a brand that you like? I'd like to hear about it. Leave the name in the comment section and let me know why you love the product.

Gone to the Dogs

The last week has NOT been fun in the Glaser household. Yoavi and I have both been sick and we were showing our apartment to some of the most odd people. We're moving (if you couldn't tell) and I'm both super excited AND super sad about it. We bought our plane tickets and the dogs are all set to go on the flight with us but traveling with my dogs is probably more scary for me than for them.

I sent my Mom an email telling her we'll need a few things for the baby by the time we get there but I forgot to send her an email about the dogs. My Mom has four dogs of her own and we have two. Her dogs each have their own bowls, their own crates, blankets, and toys - our dogs don't really have that stuff yet ... at least not in her house. I feel lucky that I randomly stumbled across this site called LeLePets. They're like a Groupon for high quality pet stuff.

Right now, they have a fun sale on some Loopies dog toys that I'm pretty sure Cecil will tear apart in 30 seconds flat. They have a ton of squeakers and even a sound box but they don't stand a chance against Cecil.

Still, we like to spoil our dogs as much as we like to spoil Yoav - but we don't like spending a ton of money while we do it. Why go to Target when I can buy a better quality dog thingy at LeLePets? Ya feel me?

Right now, Cecil has a collection of toys that are entirely his ... Sparky doesn't stand a chance near them. Every once in a while, Sparky gets a chance to squeak one of the toys but it's a rarity in our house. Having them on a 19 hour trip scares the daylights out of me but having them go to a home that is fully stocked with stuff they will like makes me happier.

Any advice for us on traveling with our dogs?

Great Things in Small Packages

Yesterday I was dead-set on writing you a post that talked about my "problems" but I obviously didn't hit "publish" because I thought better of it. In reality, I was chatting with a few friends and thought "my problems are waaaaay easier to deal with than theirs."

When I was younger, my Dad used to say "put 12 Jews together at a table, have them lay out their tzures (severe problems in Yiddish) - every single person will take back their own troubles and keep them as their own."

We all go through hard times and bouts of not knowing what to do, where to go, and who to lean on. I was glad I could be the one being leaned on instead of the one doing the leaning. Whenever I've had a hard day, I'm grateful for the following:
