South African Gaming

I know it's been a while and I'm soooooo sorry for that - things have been hectic around here! Yoav just started daycare because I started my new job so between that and trying to keep up with friends that live far and away, life hasn't stopped.

Speaking of friends, here's an interesting story for you. So, a friend of mine was telling me about his family that still lives in South Africa. He left South Africa as a kid but went back often to visit family. As a young adult, he told me he went back to go visit and decided to check out some of the casinos. Since Detroit has its own casinos, he wanted to see what they were like in South Africa.

I should point out that the conversation steered in two directions: online and offline casinos. I've visited the ones here in Detroit but the hubby has told me a bit about what gaming is like in South Africa.

Anyway, as we were talking, he was pointing out some of the cool features of the casinos and some of the drawbacks. I told him about this kid I met in Israel (really, a kid) who was playing poker at an online casino while running his dad's car wash business. He mentioned a South African online casino review site (www.casinosafari.co.za) and then showed me the site at work - which may or may not have gotten us in trouble...we'll find out when we return from break. Anyway, the site looked pretty cool!

In traditional casinos, I've seen slot machines a-plenty but I've never seen the Lord of the Rings slot machine either online or offline and I thought it was pretty cool, especially with the Hobbit in movie theaters now.

Long story short, we debated whether or not the casinos in South Africa (both online and offline) were better than the ones in Detroit. I guess I'll just have to go visit ... unless I'm feeling lucky, in which case I'll just play the Lord of the Rings slot machine.
